Home Inspections in Teays Valley & Hurricane, WV
Our inspections are independent, FREEDOM from sales pressure. Unwavering integrity is our promise.
As the premier suburban hub connecting Charleston and Huntington, the Teays Valley real estate market moves incredibly fast. While areas like Hurricane, Winfield, and Scott Depot feature beautiful master-planned communities and newer custom construction, newer does not automatically mean flawless. Fast-tracked building timelines frequently result in hidden installation shortcuts that require an inspection that is thorough, honest, and independent.
Common Issues We Uncover in Teays Valley Developments
Rapid-Build Framing Issues: In modern construction expansions, we routinely locate sloped floors and settlement towards the center of the home. This indicates some sort of framing issue. This may be a humid crawlspace allowing the framing to sag, over-spanned joists, poor framing practices, or load path alignment issues. We also see various other rapid-build framing issues like damaged trusses that were ignored during building.
Improper Lot Grading & Water Diversion: Accelerated site preparation can cause finish grading to tilt toward the foundation walls, channeling heavy rainwater straight into basements or crawlspaces instead of away from the property. This area is primarily crawl space homes, and some amount of moisture is typically found.
Decks: This is the most common problem area we see on all homes, but it is true for Hurricane, Winfield, and Scott Depot as well. In the older neighborhoods the original decks are still in place. So, they are ready for replacement in most cases having rotted posts and framing. On replaced decks or those in newer developments, we frequently see lack of flashing at the ledger, missing joist hangers, and other technical issues.
